Fun Crafts to Do When Bored

Fun Crafts to Do When Bored

You don’t have to be a trained artist to create beautiful DIY projects for your home! If you have a bit of extra time on your hands, crafting is a great way to relax while making something meaningful.

Here are a few recommendations for fun crafts to do when you’re bored.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN

1. DIY Foam Paint

Foam paint is fluffy and fun! Mix equal parts shaving cream and glue into a ziplock bag, then add in some food coloring. Cut a tip in the bag after you’ve squished all the ingredients together - and create puffy words and shapes on a paper or cardboard “canvas.” Let the designs dry overnight, and they’ll be ready to be displayed by morning.

2. Art Collage

An art collage is the perfect way for kids and adults alike to practice their creative expression. Cut out pictures from magazines, add some watercolor paints and combine all of the pieces to make something truly special and unique.

3. Home Movie

Nowadays, all it takes is a cell phone and some creative energy to make a movie! Work together on a script, casting, acting and editing - then have a premiere in the living room. Just swap the glitzy gown and heels for lounge pants and Fuzzy Babba slipper socks and you’re all set!

4. Bubble Painting

Have you ever heard of bubble painting? It’s an interactive way to make colorful art - and doesn’t require much more than bubbles, paint, a cup and a straw.

5. Tissue Box Monster

If you have some extra tissue boxes lying around the house, have the kids help you turn them into adorable little tissue box “monsters.” Paper, pom poms (and maybe googly eyes if you’d like) are really all you need!

6. Rock Candy

What’s better than art you can eat? Help little ones unleash their inner scientist with a make your own rock candy crystallization experiment.

7. Sliiiiiiime

Slime is a super easy DIY craft that doesn’t require too many ingredients - and doesn’t simply sit on the mantle once you’re done making it. Create different colors and add sparkles for a personal touch.

8. Sparkly Explosion

You probably have everything you need to create a sparkly volcano “explosion” project with the little ones. While this craft might require a little extra cleanup at the end, it’s a great way to make something pretty while teaching about science!

ADULTS

9. Marbled Nail Polish Prints

You only need nail polish, water and a piece of paper or canvas to create beautiful marbled artwork for your home. Use a muted palette or go bold - the options are endless! Hang your work with pride once it dries.

10. 365 Inspirational Notes

Practice gratitude by designing an inspirational note for every day of the year. Store them in a jar for yourself, or gift it to a loved one who could use a little extra comfort.

11. Book Planter

Adding greenery to your home helps to make your space more cozy and inviting; a vintage book planter craft is the perfect way to make a new treasure for your home.

12. Homemade Bath Salts

Make every day feel like spa day with homemade bath salts! You don’t need much more than Epsom salts and essential oils for the ultimate self care experience.

13. Hand Embroidery

Embroidery is beautiful and sentimental. While it might take some practice to feel totally comfortable with the technique, once you’ve got the hang of it, you can create all sorts of delightful designs.

14. Bob Ross Painting

While crafting on its own can be quite relaxing, Bob Ross’s soothing voice and cheerful outlook make the process extra special. Choose from any of his classic scenescapes on YouTube.
